Mission & Vision Statement

The mission of ACT is prevention of abuse/neglect and family violence. The vision is to safeguard families through education, encouragement and mentorship.

Aware Central Texas exists to provide services to communities of Central Texas, increase awareness and prevention of child abuse, and decrease the cyclical effects that child abuse will have on youth and families of the future.

History

ACT was formerly Family Outreach of Bell County as the volunteer arm of CPS to assist in the prevention of child abuse and neglect in high-risk families. A few years ago, there were 34 similar centers across Texas and 4 were located in Central Texas. In 2003, funding was cut and all but 10 centers closed. Central Texas had gone from four centers to only one. In 2006, Aware Central Texas was born. This agency is no longer associated with Family Outreach services but the legacy of compassion, mentorship, and prevention continues.
